Where in the world?

Gitana del Mar located between the towns of Puerto Nuevo and Buritaca. We are a 1 hour and 15 minutes drive from Santa Marta.

What airport do I fly into?

There are a few options of where to fly into. My first recommendation is to fly into Cartagena (CTG) a day before the retreat and stay a day there after. This old city is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and absolutely worth a visit. I can give hotel suggestions for your stay. From Cartagena we will arrange for private transport to the retreat center which will take about 4.5 hours.

Another option is Barranquilla International Airport which would be a 3 hour ride in private car to the retreat center.

Lastly Santa Marta has a small airport that has flights arriving from Bogata should you wish to do the majority of your trip via airline. The retreat center is about a one hour drive from Santa Marta.

Private transport can be arranged from/to all airports listed above though there may be an additional charge for transport if you choose to arrive in Barranquilla or Santa Marta.

What’s included in the price?

Twice daily yoga, 3 gourmet, locally-sourced meals per day, lodging for 6 nights at a private, beach-front retreat center, one full day guided adventure to Tayrona National Park, one excursion to float down Rio Don Diego, Mamo Kogi Indigenous Cleansing Fire Ceremony, private transport from and to Cartagena city.

What’s not included?

Airfare, gratuities, and any extras you choose like alcoholic beverages, massages, additional tours and arriving/departing from a city other than Cartagena.

What is the weather like?

The weather is warm and tropical all year long, 75-90°. Most of the months of the year are very dry. The months of December – Feb. tend to have the most favorable weather (not so hot during day with little humidity and a little cooler at night).

Is the ocean good for swimming?

The ocean (Caribbean Sea) on our beach is a wild and open ocean. It can be rough with big waves and strong currents. There is always some current, even if the waves are small. It is not recommended for young children to swim when it is rough and to never be in the ocean without parent supervision. There are no lifeguards on the beach and you must always take caution when entering the ocean. Swim at your own risk.

 Do you have dogs?

Yes, we have four dogs, Mia, Milu, Luna & Kala. They are very friendly and will accompany throughout your stay. If you do not like dogs, then Gitana del Mar might not be the best option for your vacation.

Mia will beg you to play with her by throwing a ball, coconuts, seeds, sticks etc. It is okay to play with her for a short time, however she has epilepsy and if she gets too agitated, she can have a seizure. We ask that you only play with her for a short time and do not take long walks on the beach with her. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
